I think i was a teenager when i first heard about this V-day and was always wondering what does this day exactly meant for š and gradually got to know the answer. Saint Valentine’s Day is celebrated on 14th February by many people throughout the world. In the West,it is the traditional day on which lovers express their love for each other by sending Valentine’s cards, presenting flowers, or offering confectionery. The day is most closely associated with the mutual exchange of love notes in the form of “valentines.” I read somewhere, as a joke, Valentine’s Day is also referred to as “Singles Awareness Day.” š
There was/is always a strong opposition to V-day celebration in India citing the reasons that “It is not our Culture”,we are becoming too westernized etc. I remember my PG(Post Graduation) college days when we all frenz decided to celebrate V-day but there was some local group which sent notices to our colleges in advance about NOT celebrating V-day and we wanted to celebrate it by hook or crook…Finally we celebrated V-day under the pretext of celebrating 2 of our dear friend’s combine birthday party :-P…The entire evening was filled with unlimited food, rocking music, masti and dance..It was this V-day which was most memorable for me for the next 3 years until V and I tied the knot and said “I do” on 14th Feb 05 nevertheless to say this is the most important and memorable day of my life š in every way…
Such protests and such nonsense & idiotic things make me believe that we Indians are still not grown up to enter the international community ! Not to accept what is western and etc.. but to know what and where needs to be protested and where not ! People are starving dying is fine, but no one will protest, but when people will celebrate V day people will protest ! Nonsense. I am sad "It happens only in India".
sahi me, it sounds direct dil se.. š
