The other day I was having a casual discussion with my hi-bye friend on what keeps me occupied besides my job, when I mentioned,I love reading, blogging etc. The nut replied,”ohh how do you manage to take time out for blogging? And are you so lonely that you don’t have anything better to do?”
I looked at him with my dropped jaw π¦ Come on,I love blogging, rather it’s my attempt to improvise my writing skills. It gives me an opportunity to make new friends, understand them, their views, their takes on different aspects. To this the friend smartly replied,”but you are a married lady with loving, doting husband and leading rather a happy life, then what attracts you to the lonely, virtual world of blogging? Lonely people who do not have sufficient listening ears, take shelter in blogging. In western countries, where people are not social animals like we Indian, many turn to blogging. It’s an effective way of taking out your frustrations as well”.
Whatever he said was partially true,in Western countries people are not that social and care for their space, privacy and prefer spending time on fruitful activities including blogging rather than socializing. But I don’t think only lonely people take to the blogging,to get rid of their loneliness.Basic reason behind people taking to blogging is their love for writing, their love for expressing views on different topics, some like to share their thought process with like minded people. Some stars like Big B,Aamir Khan,SRK want to reach to their fans directly without any media intervention and blogging is one of the best medium for them. I believe,in most cases it is an urge to to summarize life and it’s experiences and your views on it AS IT IS !!!!!!! Blog is the reflection of real you and your thought process.
In fact I would say,a blogger is multitalented person who observes every small thing around him with great curiosity n presents to the virtual world in his/her own style. In my opinion blogger is never lonely with like minded people around. What you say?????
I totally agree with you Shree. Bloggers are multi talented beings who love expressing themselves. And they do end up meeting many likeminded people online. The few bloggers whom I know in person are socially very active.
I love visiting any blog and being a part of the blogger’s life. I think it’s amazing. Lets just say that we can manage a lot of things on our plate. π
Bloggers Rock!!!
Lets make that our motto π π
Yeah…..bloggers rock,inDeed !
It’s been over a decade since I heard the term, ‘hi-bye friend’.
ha ha ha ha!
hi-bye friend!
True…I heard it in Jab We Met !
Interesting post Shree.
I don’t know about the loneliness part. I think it stems from views which generally categorize people who write or draw or read into a loners-slot. I am sure that is not always the case.
Yeah exactly,it’s not about loneliness….but it’s the perspective
Totally with you on that. Nice reply you gave him! I hope that instilled some sense and logic in him. π I blog because I love writing and reading others. What more reasons anyone wants!!
I stood by my beliefs, now it’s upto him to instill something or live with his preconceived notions.
Sometimes I blog when I feel lonely not that I blog because I am lonely..I also blog when I am happy, sad or have something to share.
So we can never generalize and why not make him a bye-bye friend π (just kidding)
Hahhaha…correct…blogging is an integral part of my life as well π but they say na, “Har ek friend jaroori hot a hai” I hope you understand what I said in quotes π
Your reply was perfect!
We all blog for various reasons. and lonliness doesn’t feature on that list for most of us!
Thanks Pixie..yes we all bloggers are different breed π
Well blogging to me has been so wonderful! And, I do have so many friends apart from my blogworld but sharing opinions, meeting new and interesting people, some of whom have become dear friends is all because of blogging.
Rightly said Rachna, Blogging has really changed me as person..I have been really enjoying the interactions with fellow bloggers..and its really helping me to grow as a person π
i agree with Shree. Blogging has opened up an entirely new world for many. we have lots of thoughts, and by putting them here, we find many like minded friends.we also come to know what the world is thinking, where it’s going! what better way to keep up with the world!
I think negative criticism comes from inferiority complex. What say?
Could not agree more on this Aruna π we all are like minded people π
Glad you replied him the way you did….
I agree that some people might blog coz they are lonely but you just can not generalize it for everyone….
Correct….people are so use to generalise everything under one umbrella..
Shows you how much thought he has put in the entire thing to off-handedly dismiss a huge segment of people. People blog for different reasons and can’t be lumped in one type no matter how hard anyone tries.
Don’t even bother with someone like him. π
Yeah, correct I never bother about any such opinions…neither they r gonna affect any blogger π
So ridiculous that someone should think that one blogs to get away with loneliness. Blogging has been the most creative activity that I have indulged in over the last year. I think it gives us the opportunity to express ourselves and also reach out to people who think similarly. I started with one blog http://meerareflections.blogspot.com and now have another one. I am thinking of a third one. When we love something we find th etime for it. Keep blogging!
Hi Meera,
Welcome to my blog, yeah you are right. When you love something you definitely find out time for it π
Why blog? Why get dressed in the morning? Why bother? Because I choose to bother, I choose to be good to myself, I choose to impart quality into my own existence.
Very well said Agnes!
π
Good that you smiled π
I blog because I want to connect with interesting and insightful people and at the same time present my opinions / ideas in order to get a meaningful feedback.
And bloggers are considered lonely because they want to avoid the average-minded and mundane people whom they meet outside. Because if we become ‘social’ like them, we might be struck with their stone-age ideas which they never want to change.
Bloggers speak out because they want outdated concepts to change and they also recognize and encourage others to speak out their own opinion. At times, bloggers change themselves for good as well, unlike their real world counterparts. Of course, Bloggers are creative people. Even silence nourishes creativity in us.

Every word written by you echoes my opinion. Very well said,I would rather get labelled as ‘lonely’ instead of participating in ,”Bhala ooski saree meri saree se saphaid kaise?” kinda gossiping π
I agree completely. I think lonely people would sign into some yahoo chat room and lurk around for other lonely people π Not blog π
Heap, bloggers are creative chaps and always want to do something creative π
You replied back PERFECTLY to him..
Thats what blogging is, you need to inroduce him to blogging so he can meet all these people out there with so many thoughts and ways and ideas …
I dont get enough time to blog wish i had more …
Very well said Bikram, I can introduce him to blogging, but it takes the liking and knack of writing to be able to survive in this virtual world. If someone like him is so conservative about it,how can he think of blogging π
